How to create Inventory in Tally?

Inventory is your stocks. If you have business or trading with stock then it is important to make your all stock in tally to maintain proper inventory management.

Creation of stock is also required to make entries in inventory invoice and give invoice copy to the party.

It is depend on you that how you want to create the stock, you have option to either create only stock under primary or you can also make your stock group wise or you can also add Stock category by enabling its features from F11 > Inventory Features > Maintain stock Category.

Sequence of your stock should be:

Stock Category

Stock Group

Stock Item

It is better to make units of measures before creating the stocks.

Units of measure: - It is a unit on which we will do our purchase and sale, simply we can say that we calculate our stock on unit

Example: Numbers, kilogramme, pieces, etc.

For unit creation:
Step: - Gateway of Tally > inventory info > units of measure > create > fill the detail > Accept

Type: In Tally there are Two types of units one is simple where we create simple units like no, kg, pcs etc and another one is Compound on which we do unit of conversion like 1kg=1000grms
Symbol: it come on print level
Formal name here we define the units
Number of decimal places: if digit comes in point (.) exp: RS 10.00 here I used 2 decimals. We can set the decimal in tally till 4.

For Stock Category Creation:

(First enable it from F11 > Inventory Features > maintain Stock Category “Yes”).

Step to create Stock Category:

Gateway of Tally (GOT) > Inventory info > Stock category > Create.
